We are heading into that time of the year where the rental market starts to heat up.  This is also the time where a lot of unsuspected renters become victims of rental scams.  Here are some tips on how to deal with rental scammers and some common red flags to be on the look out for.

RED FLAGS
1.     Landlord is on a missionary trip.
2.     Landlord has every excuse under the sun on why they can’t meet you.
3.     Landlord wants you to send a deposit to secure the property.
4.     Bad punctuation, misspelled words on listing

DON’T DO IT
1.     Applying for a property before viewing it
2.     Wiring money or paying for a property that you have not seen
3.     Giving a security deposit prior to signing a lease ( Landlord requiring that you make an upfront deposit before you sign the lease).
